Xiaomi 12 Pro review: Pure class or one to pass? March 31, 2022by Martin 6 Our view of Xiaomi devices in recent years has been a bit of a roller coaster ride of very affordable hardware. The Mi 9T Pro is back in 2020 (yay) to finally be confused with the Mi 11 Ultra in 2021 (not so yay). In 2022, the Chinese phone maker ditched its Mi naming convention, scrapped its design ethos, and dramatically started over. Indeed, this is what Xiaomi 12 feels like: a new beginning. This flagship phone focuses on key design pillars, powerful hardware and capable cameras – without the gimmicks of some competitors – all wrapped up in a package that sits well under the four-figure price tag.
So is Xiaomi 12 Pro a return to pure class or a pass? Design and C Level Executive List display 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED panel, WQHD+ resolution (1440 x 3200), 120 Hz refresh rate, 1500 nits peak Dolby Vision and HDR10+ high dynamic range support Size: 163.6 x 74.6 x 8.2mm / Weight: 205g Color options: black, green, blue, pink Fingerprint scanner under the screen The Xiaomi 12 Pro is the larger model in the series, featuring a 6.73-inch OLED display compared to the slightly smaller 6.28-inch panel on the standard Xiaomi 12. We think this little extra length in size makes it a superior phone – and one that will attract more attention from potential buyers. It also has a really nice display, with a lot of interesting features that tick all the flagship boxes: from the adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz (you can turn it on or choose 60Hz manually if you're looking to save battery), to the peak brightness 1500 nits and significant volume (not enabled by default, again you can choose a higher density within the settings).
The panel is slightly curved at its edges, but does not cause any phantom touch to suffer, as the software is smart enough to reject accidental palm touches on the edges. It's a gentle curve that helps the phone's form factor and visual appeal, helping to hide the side bezels a bit while also preventing too much contrast from spilling into those edges. We have seen some devices in recent years, for example Oppo Find X5 Pro , provide strong specifications, but in some cases you suffer a little. For example, the phone doesn't do particularly well with low-light output, as blacks tend to "grow" and appear a bit blocky. However, the Xiaomi is a masterclass by comparison: it handles rich dark content adeptly while offering ultra-bright whites. Its certification for both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ high dynamic range formats is no surprise, given how capable it is of such a wide range of contrast and color.
